Today, Manga Zone takes a close look at the Female Titan, her history and her fights with her former comrades , her abilities and her final defeat.
We are not here to beat around the bush, and we will talk about several aspects that can happen after the arc dedicated to the Female Titan . So soldier if you're ready and the spoiler doesn't scare you... here we go!
SHINZOU WO SASAGEYO!
In the medieval 🏰 steampunk-style world of Attack on Titan, humanity is threatened with extinction by the mysterious existence of real monsters, imposing humanoids, natural predators of man, known as Titans .
The main characters of the anime/manga form an elite group specializing in the defense of their walled city, known as the Survey Battalion 🛡️ , to fight the Titans and defend humanity.
However, in the series' first season, the Battalion faces an insidious threat when one of their own, Annie Leonhart, is actually revealed to be a titan... The Female Titan . 
The secret origins of the Female Titan
Trained by her father from a young age to join the army of the Mahr Empire, Annie often keeps everything to herself rather than opening up to her fellow soldiers. Due to her superior tactical abilities and combat skills, Annie is selected to become one of seven secret candidates who will be given the opportunity to transform into a Titan 💉 and serve Mahr's national interests.
Joining with her comrades in arms to destroy the rival nation, Annie and her companions are tasked with attacking the fortified nation of Paradise Island and the remnants of the kingdom of the Eldian people, who secretly possess the Original Titan , the most powerful of all the Titans.
Responsible for the top secret mission of infiltrating Paradise Island with her companions Bertolt Hoover , Reiner Braun and Marcel Galliard , Annie is visibly not afraid, even to the point where the latter seems devoid of any emotion 😐 when she doesn't lose not her objective and will do anything to accomplish her mission even after her father begs her to return home.
It is therefore with their arrival that Mahr leads an army of Titans ready to demolish Wall Maria which defends the capital of the island of Paradise by working in their human form.
The Powers and Abilities of the Female Titan
Trained all her life in martial arts and other self-defense techniques, Annie is a formidable fighter, even in her human form. She is ranked fourth in her entire training class by posing as a recruit to the Paradise Island Special Brigades.
A bit like the formidable Mikasa 🗡️ , Annie is particularly gifted at taking down larger and stronger opponents, whether in melee combat, or using the three-dimensional maneuvering equipment obtained from his entry into the human army.
Annie can transform into a monstrous Titan, she is able to trigger her transformation by self-inflicted pain (usually by a blade hidden in a ring 💍 that she wears on her finger) and focusing on his mission.
Accustomed to her Titan form through training, Annie is stronger 👊 and faster than most human-controlled Titans. But the experience also makes her able to maintain her form for longer before reverting to her human state when she reaches exhaustion.
In addition to Annie's extraordinary strength, speed and endurance in her Titan form, she has accelerated healing abilities 🧙 which allow her to concentrate on targeted parts of her body when it is damaged, which which is not the case for most Titans.
Another of Annie's Titan's particularly devastating abilities is being able to crystallize certain parts of her body into a rock-hard form for defensive or offensive use. However, if Annie maintains her crystallized form for too long, the formations begin to become brittle and crack while increasing the physical effort Annie must exert.
The defeat of Annie Leonhart
Having infiltrated the Survey Corps, Annie and her comrades kill the Titans who were captured during an expedition, in order to do research. An intelligent maneuver, because it allows the people of the walls to remain immersed in a lack of deep knowledge 🧠 .
The citizens of Paradis Island (the Eldians) are thrust into a situation where they are weak and unaware of the titans, their goals, origins, the world beyond the walls, and even the walls themselves.
After several attempts to capture and identify the Female Titan fail, Annie is invited to enter an underground passage to hide Eren from her until they can improve the city's defenses. Frustrated by his refusal, Mikasa speaks up and finally reveals that they know Annie's true identity and that she is in fact the Female Titan.
Transforming into a Titan, Annie escapes and fights Eren who also transforms into an Attack Titan (with great difficulty). Attempting to defeat him for the secret expedition of Mahr's people to study the Original Titan that Eren possesses within him, Annie decides to flee when the Survey Corps regroups and catches up with her.
After Mikasa cuts off all of the Female Titan's fingers while trying to scale the city walls to escape, she falls and crashes in the city streets.
This is how the Survey Corps attempts to extract Annie from her Titan body, they discover that she used her Titan's ability to generate the hardened crystal mentioned above to completely encase her human body in an indestructible shell to prevent any interrogation . It is fraught with frustration that the Survey Corps keeps Annie crystallized deep within the city, in a well-guarded area 🔒 .
Annie Leonhart, one of the first major villains of the series, is indirectly responsible for the loss of an entire district of the city at the hands of Savage Titans, which cost the life of Eren's mother 👩👦 .
Cunning, well-trained and extremely dangerous, she presented the main characters with the first major challenge of a long series after Eren discovered his own ability to transform into a Titan (if you're wondering about this, check out our section dedicated to the transformation of our hero). Meanwhile, Annie is still in a crystallized cocoon. But it's only a matter of time 🕰️ before she's back and continuing with the throughline of her plan.
