The worst deaths in Naruto

The story of Naruto tells the story of several great ninja wars . Each war in the saga unfortunately always ends in bloodshed. 🩸 As you probably know, the ninja wars were spawned by the mother of chakra, Kaguya Otsutsuki . A foreign entity, which used the Uchiha (Madara and Obito), over the years, to enslave humanity. Because of Kaguya, thousands of lives have perished. ⚰️ Manga Zone has listed the 16 saddest deaths in anime for you!

16. Itachi Uchiha

Itachi was a prodigy of the Uchiha Clan who particularly loved his hometown, Konoha. When his Clan wanted to create a revolt in order to take over the village, Itachi made a difficult choice and eliminated all the members of his Clan , ⚔️ including his parents, because above all he wanted the good of the people of Konoha. His little brother, Sasuke, whom he left alive, hated him for this reason. This is why he sought revenge all his life.

Subsequently, Itachi secretly infiltrated the world's worst criminal organization, Akatsuki , hoping that Sasuke 's hatred and rivalry with Naruto would give him the power necessary to protect his village and thus redeem the Uchiha's reputation. . 💸 The two brothers ended up fighting in an emotional battle and Itachi, who was suffering from an incurable illness, died 💀 after beating his brother. After explaining to Sasuke the revolt of the Uchiha Clan, his little brother then realized that his brother was in reality a black knight. Itachi will be briefly revived to help his brother later in the series.

15. Obito

Obito wanted to become a hero, he trained with Kakashi and Rin under the guidance of Naruto's father, Minato . Obito had to learn to channel his fierce ambition to become Hokage, as he had a tendency to behave rashly on the battlefield. It is also partly for this reason that a huge rock accidentally fell on him in a cave, leaving him presumed dead . ☠️

However, Obito was given a second chance, as a member of his clan, Madara , revived him, manipulated him and trained him in order to start the Fourth Great Ninja War against the different villages of this world . Obito disguised himself as Madara as he aged while fighting Konoha's forces. However, he will eventually free himself from this manipulation and help Kakashi and Naruto fight antagonists like Madara 🌑 and Kaguya , to end up dying a hero, free to join Rin, the Kunoichi he loved so much in the afterlife.

14. Haku and Zabuza

This powerful shinobi duo from Kiri 💦 allowed Naruto and Sasuke to taste a high-stakes fight for the first time. Haku was young, like them, and accomplice of Zabuza, a mercenary, who found himself in Kakashi's crosshairs. While Zabuza and Kakashi fought, Haku (who was masked) used the powers of ice to subdue Sasuke. At that moment, Naruto transformed using the Kyubi Mantle 🦊 and attacked Haku in order to protect Sasuke .

Naruto ultimately triumphed, however sparing Haku and befriended the young fighter. However, the ending will not be happy, as Haku ends up receiving a fatal blow from Kakashi , which was intended for Zabuza. Zabuza then asked for one last favor and to be buried ⚰️ near Haku so that they could enter the afterlife together.

13. Rin

Rin was a true sweetheart, ❤️ that's why Obito loved her. After being saved by Madara, he wanted to return to his teammates and that's what he did. However, before passing out, he came across Kakashi using his Chidori on his beloved . Obito then became angry and massacred everyone around him before returning to Madara, ready to embrace the ideology that the world is nothing but hell. 🔥

What made Rin's death so sad was that Madara actually orchestrated the whole thing , as he had the Kirigakure village kidnap him and implant him with the three-tailed beast, Isobu , which was to be released in turn in order to kill all the Konoha people. 🏘️ What Obito saw was Rin lunging at Kakashi's jutsu, which was aimed at his captors. Rin sacrificed herself for Konoha , but that didn't stop her from trying to guide Obito to the light beyond.

12. Hiruzen

Hiruzen belonged to the Sarutobi clan and was the mentor of Jiraiya, Orochimaru 🐍 and Tsunade, the famous legendary Sannin of Konoha. He eventually passes the mantle of Hokage to Minato, but the latter's death as the Fourth Hokage will see Hiruzen return for a second stint, as he desired to keep an eye on Naruto and the Nine-Tailed Demon . 🦊 As Naruto, Sasuke and the new generation flourished, they attempted to take the Chûnin exam to graduate, but Orochimaru, who was now evil, returned and attacked Konoha.

Orochimaru is known as a legendary Sannin but also a mad geneticist. 🧬 He also reanimated the first two Hokages , Hashirama and Tobirama, who according to legend are the two most powerful Hokages in Konoha. Hiruzen defeated them and then knocked down Orichimaru, however he had been fatally stabbed. He died smiling, teaching his former student, Orochimaru, one last lesson.

11. Asuma

Asuma was the son of Hiruzen the hokage , Asuma was the Sensei of several shinobi from the Konoha Ninja Academy ( Shikamaru , Ino and Choji ) 🐱‍👤 in the same way as Kakashi and other ninjas from their generation. After his father's death, he prepared his charges to be more careful and formed a team with Shikamaru to obtain information on the rising threat, Akatsuki. ☁️ Unfortunately he came across Kakuzu as well as the immortal known as Hidan in a grueling fight.

Hidan used his abilities to link his life to Asuma's and in a delicate fight, he stabbed himself in the heart. 💔 Asuma died while the Akatsuki members were retreating, Asuma perished while smoking one last cigarette. 🚬 This death will shape the character of Shikamaru, who will later succeed in killing Hidan. Shikamaru became Asuma's baby mentor at home, and then Naruto's advisor when he became Hokage, modeling himself in some ways after his father.

10. Uchiha Clan

The Uchiha have always been bloodthirsty , leading Madara to lead them in several battles against Hashirama and the Senju clan . Both are descendants of Hagoromo and would forever go to war. However, a treaty was made and the union of the two clans gave birth to Konoha . 🍂 That said, while Hashirama became Hokage, Madara was convinced that his people would never be trusted and would forever be seen as enemies of Konoha.

Even after the deaths of Hashirama and Madara, the atmosphere in Konoha remained unhealthy, as the Uchiha were kept on the outskirts of the village and were only considered a military force . This led to their secret uprising to kill all the citizens of Konoha Village. Itachi decided not to follow their path and instead killed them all, teaming up with Obito who pretended to be Madara.

9. Shisui

Shisui Uchiha was Itachi's idol and the man who made him a hero. He was also the first to warn the Third Hokage of the coup d'état planned by the Uchiha Clan and for this, his clans, led by Danzo, turned against him, trying to steal the spotlight to increase their power. Shisui fought back, losing an eye 👁️‍🗨️ before telling Itachi. In Itachi 's presence, he committed suicide and gave his other eye to Itachi as an emergency solution , and in doing so, he awakened Itachi's Mangekyo Sharingan .

This hereditary eye power made Itachi even more powerful . Shisui's death was heartbreaking, as he demonstrated impeccable loyalty to Konoha and begged Itachi to bring the Uchiha back to the light. 💡 Unfortunately, this never happened, but Itachi tried to live his life honoring his fallen comrade.

8. Neji

Neji's death is another notable event in the saga , as he was the first Shinobi of Naruto's generation to die. ⚱️ He went from being Naruto's rival to being a close friend. While Naruto was out of breath, Obito used Jubi to deliver the final blow to Naruto, while Naruto was in danger, Hinata (his future wife and Neji's cousin) protected him.

Neji , in turn, began to protect Hinata and Naruto , which is why he was mortally impaled by the ten-tailed demon's powerful attack . With his last breath, he urged Naruto to be careful, as he was the only hope of saving humanity . Naruto was broken, as he had always respected Neji as a genius shinobi.

7. Shikaku and Inoichi

Legacy is a big part of this anime and a lot of the stories revolve around the relationships with the protagonists' parents. When the Ten-Tailed Demon 👿 began decimating ninjas during the Fourth Great Ninja War, even Naruto had difficulty facing him. Meanwhile, Shikaku (Shikamaru's father) and Inoichi (Ino's father) were at a shinobi base that dealt with strategy and telepathy to relay tactical information to the battlefield quickly.

However, Jubi started throwing demon orbs ⚫ and one of them was aimed at that specific base. Realizing there was nothing they could do, the older ones sent a final military strategy to Naruto's army , then sentenced themselves to death. However, the parents had to say goodbye telepathically to their children, which was an overwhelming, very emotional moment. It showed that in the midst of war, love always wins. Choji's father was the only survivor of this Konoha trio. 🏘️

6. Sakumo

Sakumo was a legendary ninja who was idolized by his son, Kakashi Hatake . One day during a crucial mission, his teammates were in mortal danger, 💀 Sakumo then made the decision to stop the mission and thus save the members of his squad . This decision was frowned upon and attracted Konoha's anger. Because of this common-sense decision, Sakumo was abandoned by both his teammates and his village for not following instructions. After being disgraced, he became depressed and eventually ended his life by committing suicide.

This death was never shown on screen , ⚰️ but the image of his departure into the darkness was clear. Suicide was a delicate matter for a Shinobi and it was this defining story that caused Kakashi to live his life strictly by the rules. However, just before Nagato resurrected him, Kakashi and his father met in the afterlife and Kakashi forgave Sakumo for his failure to follow the rules, Kakashi was actually still proud to be his son. This allowed his father to finally emerge from limbo to meet Kakashi's mother in the afterlife. 🌅

5. Konoha

When Akatsuki attacked Konoha in force, the village was very exposed. Itachi and Sasuke had gone to battle each other while Naruto trained to master the powerful art of Sage Mode . Pain , who led Akatsuki, then launched the group's final assault on Naruto Village to send a message that they were ready to end the shinobi world.

All the ninjas in the village tried to defend him - from Hiruzen's grandson Konohamaru to Kakashi to Tsunade , who was the new Hokage - but Akatsuki was simply too powerful and relentless. They crushed most of the village, caring not for the men, women, or children, and the chaos was apparent, as all that remained was smoke, ash, and rubble. 💣 It was one of the greatest decimation scenes in the saga , ending with the iconic image of the dead Kakashi looking up into the sky .

4. Nagato

Naruto returned to Konoha just in time to save the village from Pain 's powerful attack, using his new ability to use Sage Mode. 🐸 He had no choice but to fight Nagato, a powerful Shinobi capable of manipulating puppets possessing the Rinnegan. Much like Naruto, Nagato was descended from the direct lineage of the Uzumaki. While Nagato was originally a Ninja desiring peace, a tragedy led him to change his path.

This change was caused by the death of his friend, Yahiko and leaves him and his other friend, Konan , alone in a cruel world. 🩸 Additionally, Madara and Obito manipulated them into forming Akatsuki, which powered Nagato with the Rinnegan Eyes . Naruto eventually convinces him to mend his ways and Nagato then uses the Rinnegan to bring Konoha back to life, but he dies in the process. This inspired not only Naruto, but also Konan, because she saw that hope still existed! 🕊️

3. Konan

By resurrecting Konoha, Nagato atoned for his sins . 🍑 Seeing this, Konan abandoned Akatsuki, as she now wanted to follow Naruto's path . However, she was soon confronted by Tobi, aka Obito, who wanted Nagato's body so he could extract the Rinnegan. They fought as Konan warned her that she was returning to a normal life Nagato and their dead friend, Yahiko , wanted when they were children - a life away from war. 🔫

However, Tobi knew her jutsu and countered all her moves before grabbing her by the throat, subjecting her to a genjutsu (a dream spell) and ending her life. He had already located Nagato and left, not caring what would happen after Akatsuki. ☁️ This was a fascinating death, as it indicated that Naruto's inspiration move could easily be stopped.

2. Minato and Kushina

The death of Naruto's parents was one of the most emotional and sad chapters of the series. When Kushina returned from work, Obito hypnotized 👁️‍🗨️ Kyubi using his sharingan and unleashed it on Konoha Village. He ended up fighting with Minato, his former master, who tried to protect the village and his family from this powerful shinobi. The other shinobi tried to stop the rampaging beast while Minato fought Obito, who was posing as Madara.

The Uchiha's plan was foiled, however, because Kushina joined Minato on the battlefield. ⚔️ They inevitably beat him, but in the process both underwent a ritual that cost them their lives. In order to stop Kurama, they had to implant him into their newborn, creating Naruto's destiny. Sarutobi then resumed his position as Hokage and overseeing Naruto's development . 👨‍🎓

1. Jiraiya

Jiraiya's death was a major turning point in Naruto's life, as it transformed the teenager into a powerful warrior. Jiraiya, who served as Minato's mentor and transformed him into Hokage, returned to Konoha to do the same for Minato's son. 👩‍🎓 He traveled a lot, but with Tsunade replacing Sarutobi as Hokage, Orochimaru on the loose, and Akatsuki's plots, he became Naruto's mentor while Kakashi looked after Sasuke.

When Naruto developed his sage powers, Jiraiya was investigating the actions of Akatsuki . During a gruesome case, fans discovered that Nagato, Konan, and Yahiko were former students of Jiraiya, who later turned bad due to the eternal wars surrounding them. The legendary ninja ended up being impaled 🌵 and died at the bottom of the ocean, but before he died, he still sent hints to Konoha on how to beat Akatsuki and more specifically Pain.
