Jinbe, also known as "The Sea Paladin", is a male character from the One Piece manga universe. He is a member of the Fishman race, and is a master of Fishman Karate and Gyojin Jujutsu.
In the past, he was a member of the Sun Pirates, serving under Fisher Tiger , and later met members of Whitebeard's crew, becoming one of Edward Newgate's allies and one of his sons". 🏴☠️
During this time, Jinbe felt he owed Whitebeard a debt of gratitude for claiming Fishman Island as his territory, which helped protect the mermaids from pirates heading to the island. island to capture and sell them. Additionally, he was good friends with Portgas D. Ace 🔥. They met before Ace met Whitebeard, and fought for three days and three nights, without interruption , without rest, before Whitebeard finally arrived to stop the fight. For this reason, he refused to fight in the Marineford War, as it would have caused him to betray both Whitebeard and Ace .
Before disobeying the World Government, he was one of the Seven Corsair Captains. He had this title for an indefinite period, but after the call to Marineford, he disobeyed, his title was stripped from him, his bounty was reinstated, and he was imprisoned on Level 6 of Impel Down . This is how he was freed by Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of the prisoners. Once he arrived in Marineford, he actively fought against the Marines in an attempt to save Ace and help Whitebeard. Once the war ended, Jinbe played a crucial role in getting Luffy out of the crisis Ace's death had thrown him into .
Two years later, Jinbe helps the Straw Hat Pirates fight against Charlotte Linlin, aka Big Mom 🍰. After the arc is completed, Luffy orders Jinbe to become a member of his crew, and Jinbe says he will, but only after he finishes some work in Totto Land. Once Luffy and the others leave, he confronts Big Mom, but the extent of what happened there is still unknown. Later, he shows up in Wano Kuni, while the Straw Hat Pirates and the Nine Red Scabbards are engaged in battle against Kurozumi Orochi, Kaido, and the Yonko Pirates , ready to finally become part of the crew, and to help them in their fight ⚔.
Jinbe is a man of great pride and honor. He is known to the World Government as a pirate-hating pirate, likely due to the pirates' actions on the island of his fellow fishmen, who kidnap fish and sailors to sell as slaves. However, he has a soft spot for Whitebeard and his crew as he sees them as a sort of pirates in their own right. Because of what Whitebeard has done for his homeland, Fish-Man Island, he understands the damage a war between the World Government and Whitebeard would cause 💥. He knows that places like his home, which are protected by simply being part of Whitebeard's territory, would be hit the hardest if Whitebeard lost the war. Additionally, although he originally hated pirates, he did not hesitate to become one to help his Fisher Tiger brothers.
Despite his pride, Jinbe seems to put his priorities and interests ahead of his honor, and does not hesitate to withdraw from an unfinished battle (despite shame or open mockery from an opponent) if it is for the good. of all. He also does not seem to hesitate to encourage others to do the same for a similar cause, as seen when he pleaded and successfully convinced Luffy to prioritize Ace's safety over 'to his brother's revenge against Blackbeard 🌌. Jinbe also displayed great humility regarding his personal strength and status, a trait unique among Shichibukai. This was evidenced by his willingness to even lose his status for his refusal to fight against the Whitebeard Pirates .
Additionally, unlike his former teammate Arlong, the fact that he is willing to help a human (Whitebeard) as well as team up with others separates him from other fish 🐡. While Arlong would never have imagined such a thing (even recruiting Nami into his crew was close to slavery), Jinbe shows himself capable of respecting at least some humans and recognizing when he owes a debt to the one of them. Although he has great emotional control, he shows empathy and understanding towards the pain of others, such as when he was brought to tears when Luffy broke down after losing his brother in front of him after waking up from the Battle of Marineford. Jinbe is also capable of crying out loud when a loved one is lost, like Ace and Tiger ⚰.
His personality in the past contrasts dramatically with the seemingly docile temperament of the present. In a flashback showing a battle between the Sun Pirates and the Marines, Jinbe was excessively brutal towards the enemies which even caused Arlong to ask him to stop 💢. He seems to be a very reasonable person and seems very passive at times. Although he disagreed with Arlong's thinking that humans always look down on fish, he noticed that they always seem to be afraid of them. After asking a former human slave named Koala why, she replied that it was because they didn't know much about them. Jinbe said the stranger was scary and remembered Otohime saying that fish didn't know anything about humans.
Jinbe originally doubted Otohime's ideals, thinking they meant nothing. He even openly stated that he didn't care about her petition. However, after listening to Fisher Tiger's speech about peace ☮, Jinbe came to support Otohime and even admitted the trouble the Sun Pirates were causing him and joined the Shichibukai to support her cause .
Jinbe shares the same view as Vivi on responsibilities 👁. When Luffy asked Jinbe to join the Straw Hats, Jinbe refused saying that there were still things to do. Jinbe's decision also resembles Vivi's when he also asked Luffy to let her join his crew , if they meet again in the future. According to Neptune , Jinbe tends to take on too much responsibility and should learn not to do so.
Jinbe character story
His past
Jinbe grew up as an orphan in the orphanage that became the Fishman District, alongside Arlong, Macro, and Fisher Tiger . He trained at Fishman's karate dojo from a young age and earned a black belt in karate while still a child. Around sixteen years before the current timeline, Jinbe was a soldier in Neptune's army. As Otohime preached to his people, Jinbe declared that his preaching was going nowhere . He was then seen frowning at Arlong's ill-mannered behavior towards the citizens of Fish-Man Island. As Arlong harassed a new Neptune Army recruit, Jinbe scornfully ordered him to let him go, to which Arlong curtly complied. Jinbe and Arlong then each greeted Fisher Tiger just as warmly after he returned from an island adventure. After Fisher Tiger attacked Mariejois and became an enemy of the World Government, Jinbe resigned from the military and joined the Sun Pirates ☀.
A few years later, the Pirates of the Sun visited an island where a former slave of Mariejois named Koala 🐨 resided. The island's residents had no way of returning the girl to her homeland and so asked the Sun Pirates to take her. After taking the girl, Jinbe showed sympathy upon seeing how traumatized she was . During a battle with the Marines, Jinbe showed his brutality by brutally beating Marines. Jinbe despised them for ignoring slavery and calling their heinous acts a crime. During their journey on the Grand Line, the Sun Pirates faced numerous Marines, including those led by Rear Admiral Kadar .
After the battle, Tiger had a discussion with Jinbe and Arlong telling them not to kill humans; to do otherwise would mean to stoop to their level. Tiger went on to say that their ultimate goal was to liberate the oppressed and not become cold-blooded murderers 🔪🩸. This did not sit well with Arlong and he suggested Tiger to scare the humans using cruelty and extreme brutality. Jinbe hit Arlong on the head to silence him. Later , Tiger spoke alone with Jinbe and expressed his concerns that Otohime might view herself and Arlong as equally ruthless, and hinted at the demons of the past that lurked in his heart.
Jinbe tried to understand why the girl was so afraid of them, which she assumed was simply a matter of not knowing anything about them . As the Sun Pirates' journey continued, she grew closer towards him and the other pirates, and most of them towards her . However, when they reached his hometown, the Pirates crew were ambushed by marines led by Rear Admiral Strawberry and warned by the villagers, causing Jinbe and the other fishermen to abandon the ship and steal a navy ship. 🚢
Unfortunately for Fisher Tiger, he was seriously injured during the battle. After escaping the marines, Jinbe and the rest of the Sun Pirates surrounded Fisher Tiger's bed as he confessed his past as a slave and how, despite his efforts, he couldn't help but hate humans and therefore could not accept their blood into his body. Jinbe begged Fisher Tiger to live, but he ended up dying along with Jinbe and the other crew members crying in misery.
Jinbe's Abilities and Powers
It is said that Jinbe was able to fight Portgas D. Ace on equal terms, even when Ace had the powers of Logia . They both nearly killed each other during a five-day fight just before Ace was taken by Whitebeard, and in Impel Down, he and Ace shared a cell on level six. He was easily able to hit Gekko Moriah 🦇 (a fellow Shichibukai) from a few meters away, almost knocking him out.
Helmsman
Jinbei is a very skilled helmsman due to his familiarity with the sea, and he is able to control unfamiliar ships with ease despite having no prior experience, such as a stolen sea vessel, during their escape from 'Impel Down , and he is also able to easily avoid taking damage from cannon fire. He later demonstrated the ability to control the Thousand Sunny on the first try 🌞, and carefully maneuver it around the waves and the giant wave created by Big Mom, which allowed him and the Straw Hats to who accompanied him, to move in the wave safely to avoid sinking 🚢.
Physical abilities of a fishman
Immense Strength: As a fishman, Jinbe possesses immense strength. It is the most powerful fish we have seen so far , as evidenced by the fact that it threw a giant fish with a single kick. It also seems to be quite fast, even on dry land, paradoxically given its large size. He was able to intercept an enraged Luffy (in Gear Second mode) and prevent him from attacking Blackbeard, then Akainu ⚓, while the latter was preparing to deal a second fatal blow to Ace in the final moments of this last.
Immense Pain Resistance: Jinbe has an enormous pain tolerance: not only was he one of the few people who could do a "baptism" in boiling water in Impel Down without flinching (which is considered to be an impressive feat), but he was able to stop a direct magma punch from Akainu with his bare hand 🖐, unfazed despite his severe burns, and received a direct hit from the latter, which completely pierced his body, and his only reaction was to apologize to Luffy for causing him more pain. Oddly enough, he exclaimed in pain when he was bitten by Luffy, although this was most likely due to the fact that he was prepared for Akainu's attack, but was caught off guard by Luffy's bite 🦷.
Immense Willpower: Jinbe possesses immense willpower and rare courage even allowing him to resist the powers of Big Mom's Soru Soru no Mi thanks to his lack of fear for the Yonko .
Fishman Karate
Jinbe is a master of Karate, he revealed that he already had a black belt when he was still a child, which he can use to take down multiple guards at once. His skill is such that his strikes don't even need to make physical contact with an enemy, as the water particles in the air knock them back a few seconds after the attack begins 💦. Another example of his strength and level of Karate is that he defeated Minorhinoceros, one of the four Demon Guards, with a single uppercut .
He also demonstrates the ability to manipulate water as if it were tangible tissue through Fishman Karate, even using it to attack from a distance 🏹. He can cause devastating damage with this kind of technique, both to people and ships . Jinbe later reveals that Fishman Karate allows him to control all water nearby, including the water in a person's body. Jinbe demonstrated this ability by splashing seawater on Moriah's zombies while on a battlefield covered in solid ice. And with this ability he is able to hurt Luffy despite being made of rubber and even Caribou who is a Logia user 🍑. He is also capable of secreting water from his body like Hody after overdosing on energy steroids.
Thanks to his mastery of Fishman Karate, Jinbe can perform blocking moves that are capable of stopping attacks as powerful as the thrusts of a Gekko Moriah, also a member of the Shichibukai, reinforced by shadow. He even managed to stop the punch of Wadatsumi, a giant fish who had also taken an energy steroid and even broke a finger, with a single kick .
It is worth noting that moments before, Wadatsumi had brutally defeated Surume, a massive Kraken 🐙 well known for his combat skills. Moments before, he had managed to deflect a super-powered Hody Jones' water shot with relative ease, with Jinbe even stating that Hody himself's mastery of this fighting style paled in comparison to his own. Jinbe is also capable of using the Buraikan hidden technique of Fishman Karate . With this attack, Jinbe blasts the opponent's body with water. After Jinbe uses this powerful attack, he sends Wadatsumi into the air, but she is also powerful enough to send the Yonko, Big Mom flying as her durability weakens due to not eating the wedding cake for 8 hours ⏲.
Marine Life Telepathy: Among the fish, Jinbe has shown the unique ability to communicate with fish, even over long distances . Jinbe's ability to do this is considered remarkable by Crocodile 🏜.
He summoned a large school of whale sharks from the Calm Belt (which was generally too dangerous, with the Sea Kings infesting it) to aid him in a massive attack on Impel Down. He can give precise orders to whale sharks, so that they understand and obey him.
With the Calm Belt dangerously populated by the Sea Kings, Jinbe summoned his fellow whale sharks to help him cross it, as he did when leaving the Amazon Lily 🏝.
Knowledge of the Sea Paladin's opponents
As a former Shichibukai, Jinbei has knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of different characters in the world of One Piece. Jinbei has knowledge of the Akainu's Magu Magu no Mi. Jinbei recognizes that Hody Jones' Gyojin Karate is amateur level and nothing to compare to his own mastery of Gyojin Karate, because it relies on fake powers (energy steroids) 💊.
Jinbei also knows the Mochi Mochi no Mi powers of the Sweet Commander Katakuri and the use of any liquid to escape the Mochi's grip. He is aware of Oven's powers and his Netsu Netsu no Mi which burns everything it touches, making it too dangerous to block his attacks, as he warned. He knows that Prometheus (the Homie sun who infused Big Mom's soul) ☁ is just a simple compressed flame due to his weakness to water and considers him a large-mouthed fire.
Jinbe and his use of haki
Jinbei possesses two Haki, making him the first fishman to use Haki.
Jinbei used Busoshoku Haki when he fought to a draw with Portgas D. Ace . He easily defeated Caribou, a powerful Logia user, with a single punch 👊. He toughened his arms to defend himself against the minions of Big Mom's Pirates and also defended himself against Big Mom herself during the escape.
Jinbe was also seen using Kenbonshoku Haki against Big Mom.
