Roger is the only One Piece character to have completely traveled the new world until reaching Raftel , the island which contains One Piece 🏝 .
Wealth, glory and power, this man had achieved everything, Roger is one of the biggest names in the world of piracy, if not the biggest 🏆.
Oda, the manga artist behind One Piece, still has a lot of Roger's journey reserved for readers, but he's already given us a lot of relevant information about him.
Here we go for 10 facts you don't know about the Pirate King , Gol D. Roger.
10. The Age of Gol D. Roger
Gol D. Roger was part of the same generation as his crew mate Silvers Rayleigh, former Chief Admiral Sengoku, Garp, Shiki and his counterpart Whitebeard. Roger was undoubtedly the one who dominated the seas at that time. When the time of his death came, Roger was 53 years old .
Before the two-year time-skip, if Roger were still alive he would have celebrated his 75th birthday, and would currently be 77 years old. However, he was the second youngest of his time, the youngest of this generation was Edward Newgate 💥 .
9. His birthday
Roger's day of birth was December 31 of the year 1447. He will mark the years that follow, shaking up the entire earth simply by the fact of his existence ☠. Note the proximity between the date of Roger's birthday and that of his son Portgas D. Ace.
Portgas D. Ace was born on the 1st day of the year, Portgas D. Rouge, however, carried him in his womb for 20 months 🤰 in order to prevent the navy from discovering that he was the son of Gol D. Roger. Following her birth, Rouge died.
8. Roger's Bounty
If you're just an animator and want to grow as a fan, here's a little juicy info to help you skip the next step. Gol D. Roger's bounty was recently revealed. As expected of the Pirate King, he holds the largest bounty a pirate has ever had, with a staggering 5,564,800,000 berries 🤑.
This amount remains unmatched to this day, and the only pirate who has ever approached this bounty is the strongest man in the world, more commonly known as White Bar. Newgate had a bounty of 5,046,000,000 berries 💸 .
7. The straw hat
Luffy received his legendary hat 👒 from the beginning of the work in the One Piece manga. It was during the time of Romance Dawn, Luffy received the straw hat from his idol, Red Shanks . Interestingly, Shanks himself received this straw hat from someone else. As some of you may have guessed by now, that person is the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger .
It is therefore Roger's straw hat that Luffy is currently wearing. However, we don't know where Roger got this straw hat from 🤔. It is possible that Roger himself inherited someone else's straw hat , which illustrates the process of inheritance.
6. Similarities with Luffy
The Straw Hat certainly isn't the only thing Luffy and Gol D. Roger have in common. According to Rayleigh, Luffy's nature is similar to Roger's . This is confirmed by Shanks who, upon meeting Rayleigh at the Sabaody Archipelago, told him that Luffy's words 💬 were similar to the comments made by Roger, the former captain of his crew.
The similarity of the two characters is particularly noted in their smile 😀 facing death without any fear. Roger did this before his execution . While Luffy smiled when Buggy was going to take his life in Logue Town.
5. Similarities with Ace
Being the father of Portgas D. Ace 👨👦, it seems logical that Roger and his son have similarities. According to Newgate, Ace's character traits reminded him very little of his rival , Roger. One thing is certain, they both have the principles of never retreating from an enemy threat, regardless of its magnitude.
As Monkey D. Garp explains, Roger would never back down, even when faced with an opposing fleet he could not defeat. Like him, Ace never ran away from danger, as we saw in the Marineford arc where Sakazuki was virulent against Newgate🌋 right in front of Ace's face.
Both did it in order to be the protection their loved ones needed when they were in danger. For them, not facing the various dangers they faced was synonymous with cowardice and taking the risk that their loved ones would suffer.
4. Roger's Wrath
According to Monkey D. Garp, a very good acquaintance of Gol D. Roger, our Pirate King got angry very often 💢 , and when that happened, he became a real storm. Paradoxically, we talk about his actions by defining them as "pure" or even childish, innocent.
Although he was reckless by nature, Gol D. Roger achieved his goal in finding the One Piece, although according to Garp, he benefited from a large measure of luck in achieving this feat. This luck aspect linked to innocence is a character trait that he shares with Monkey D. Luffy.
3. His connection with Garp
It seems that Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger fought all the time before the great pirate era ⚔. However, the two had nothing but respect for each other. Garp once stated that despite everything Roger had done, he could never bring himself to hate him .
At the same time, Gol D. Roger found himself a little in the person of Garp. Shortly before he died, Roger entrusted his son to none other than Monkey D. Garp , expressing his complete trust in him, a trust such that it was comparable to that he had in one of his crew members. 👬.
2. Roger's Enemy: Rocks D. Xebec
Roger has had several enemies, such as the "golden lion" Shiki , the "marine hero" Monkey D. Garp , and Newgate , to name a few. Moreover, Sengoku recently said that Roger's most formidable enemy was the captain of the Rocks Pirates, Rocks D. X ebec ✊ .
Rocks aimed to be the king of the world 👑 . However, at God Valley, he was completely crushed by the combined force of the Roger Pirates and a Marine unit that included Monkey D. Garp.
1. Roger's real name
Most readers of the manga are aware that Roger's full name is Gol D. Roger. Interestingly, to conceal his lineage 🤫 , the world government attempted to popularize him as Gold Roger. Very few people knew that his true identity was that of Gol D. Roger, Roger said so about himself when he spoke to Whitebeard for the last time before his death.
The story of the D. was explained by Roger to Whitebeard in its entirety, presumably. At the time, Eiichiro Oda took precautions not to let fans know what all this meant. This scene risks coming back to the forefront in the rest of the adventures 🎞 .
