Dabi, real name Toya Todoroki is a major supporting antagonist in the series. He is a villain affiliated with the League of Villains, and formerly a member of the organization's Genesis Squad. He and the rest of his team are the main antagonists of the Forest Training Camp Arc. He is also the antagonist of the Pro Hero Arc.
He then became one of the nine lieutenants of the Paranormal Liberation Front.
Dabi Appearance
Dabi is a fairly tall and pale young man, with a thin and somewhat flabby build, who is described as being around twenty years old. He has white hair with a few red strands at the top, which stands up around his head and hangs low above his eyes, which are thin, turquoise in color, and very closed. Before his true identity was revealed, his hair was dyed black. 👦🏻
Its most striking features are undoubtedly the patches of knotty, wrinkled purple skin that cover much of its lower face and neck, down to its collarbone, under its eyes, around its torso, and on its arms and legs, due to his Fire Quirk which spiraled out of control at a young age and engulfed him in flames.🔥 They appear to be attached to the rest of his skin by multiple crude surgical staples or piercings in the shape of a circle.
He has several silver cartilage piercings in both ears, and a triple nostril piercing on the right side of his nose. Upon closer inspection, he also appears to be missing earlobes on both sides of his ears. In his first appearance, he wears a dark blue jacket with a high, torn collar, and matching pants, cut off above the ankles, a pair of dark dress shoes on his feet. He also wears a plain pale gray shirt with a round collar, beneath which a gray circular-patterned belt wraps around his waist, a leather satchel attached to the back.
As a child, Toya had a round face and unruly crimson hair that was pulled up in clumps around his head, falling across his forehead in irregular bangs, although due to inheriting his mother's genes (or Marie-Antoinette), her hair slowly turned white. Due to his premature birth, he was also smaller than his two youngest siblings, Fuyumi and Natsuo, although after his growth spurt he reached the same height as them. 🤴🏻
When he joins the Genesis Action Squad , his look is updated, now consisting of a larger dark blue coat with two large metal cuffs at the end of each elbow, and a white dot pattern on each of his shoulders, the hem torn, extending to his knees. His shirt and belt remain the same, but he replaces his pants with larger, darker-colored ones, and his shoes with black boots.
Upon the formation of the Paranormal Liberation Front, Dabi acquires a new outfit to complete his status as one of the organization's nine lieutenants. Dabi wears a long dark blue coat with the same white cuffs as his previous one. Additionally, he dons a white V-neck shirt with white outlines. His stitches extend not only to his shoulder pads but also to the kneecaps of his pants. The only things he keeps are his silver belt, black boots, and dark colored pants. He also has three buttons on both sides of his coat.
Dabi's Personality
As a child, Toya was very energetic and boisterous, and he wanted to learn everything he could from his father. As his father Enji had insisted that he would be the one to surpass All Might since childhood, Toya became obsessed with achieving this dream, becoming just as stubborn as his father to become the next number one. This drive to surpass All Might was so great that despite Enji's attempts to tell him to abandon this goal and focus on something else in life, he refused and continued training, burning himself in the process. After being abandoned by Enji, who focused on Shoto, Toya's youngest brother, Toya went through an existential crisis, crying in frustration every night.😭 After losing control of his fire and burning much of it with his body, he faked his death and became a murderous criminal obsessed with ruining his father's reputation.
After renaming himself Dabi, he became emotionless and very cold towards people. Although he is rather brutal and violent, he is actually cautious, choosing to retreat when Mirko arrived to help Endeavor. 🔥
Dabi hates virtually everyone and can be very mean, being quite rude and condescending to virtually everyone he interacts with. He insulted Tomura Shigaraki immediately after meeting him and constantly does the same to his allies and enemies, but he does not always do it with the intention of being rude. While the League developed a strong sense of camaraderie, Dabi remained distant from most of them. He has admitted that he does not care about Tomura or the rest of the League and that the value he places on them mostly comes from their ability to realize his ambitions. This selfish way of thinking makes Dabi an extreme sociopath . 🔪
After his identity and childhood are revealed, Dabi reveals his most sadistic and unhinged side, expressing a crazed and gleeful expression while confronting his father and youngest brother. 😈 His sadism and vengeance fully renewed, Dabi revels in any pain he can cause Endeavor , as he demonstrated by attacking Nejire Chan with his Quirk and gloating that the future of a another child had been burned by Endeavor's flames. His show also showed his true belief in heroes, that they use their good deeds to hide and justify all their sins, and use the public's admiration for them to make it so.
Dabi is also aware of his own madness and does not seem opposed to the idea of committing suicide if it will kill his father or hurt him further, as shown by Dabi and Shoto's attempted immolation during the Liberation War paranormals. He also expresses the fact that he can no longer feel anything, not even towards his family, which reinforces Dabi's apathy and contempt for all forms of life.
Dabi's powers
General Abilities: Trained by his father, Endeavor , from a young age, and self-taught, Dabi has proven himself to be a very powerful villain, one of the strongest members of the Action Squad Genesis of the League of Villains, as well as its de facto leader. After joining the League, Dabi killed over thirty people, earning a reputation as a dangerous criminal and mass murderer. Dabi has perfect control over his powerful but dangerous Quirk, which allows him not only to control his self-generated blue flames, more powerful than normal flames, but also to have a great range. 🏹 Dabi fights primarily from a distance, shooting fireballs, generating flamethrower attacks, and releasing bursts of fire when at close range. His basic attack involves using the raw strength of his Quirk to overwhelm his enemies. On defense, Dabi can burn through attacks and even generate massive walls of fire to surround his targets. With this skill and power, he can incinerate an entire group of opponents in seconds. Overall, Dabi has the power and ingenuity to deal with a multitude of opponents who outnumber him.
The immense power and range of Dabi's Quirk allowed him to repel the Bakugo escort during the Genesis Action Squad invasion, fight several members of the Paranormal Liberation Army, and to emerge unscathed, and even to face Geten, one of their strongest members, and sometimes to overpower him. These feats are all the more impressive since Dabi never used his fire techniques during these encounters. 🔥
Dabi's control over his powerful Quirk also allows him to fly and glide through the air, like his father and younger brother. During the Paranormal Liberation War, Dabi began using his father's Flashfire Fist techniques in combat and was able to not only instantly burn the Jeanist's carbon fibers, but also completely and easily overpower Shoto, who could also use the Flashfire. The disparity in their abilities was so great that Dabi could knock him out with a single Jet Burn.
Increased Endurance: Despite his disheveled body and the drawbacks of his Quirk, Dabi is quite effective in enduring battles where heavy injury is imminent. Notably, when his own flames begin to eat away at his body from being used , Dabi continues to fight and use his volatile Quirk, ignoring the probable self-cremation he could suffer.
Keen Intellect: Possessing good judgment, Dabi is a very keen individual, observing everything around him, whether reading someone's intentions or weaknesses. Dabi is also known to psychologically engage his enemies, questioning their motives and morality during combat. This is a completely tactical move to buy time since it complements Dabi's weakness, his flames harming his own body in the long run. During his first meeting with Tomura Shigaraki, the pyrokineticist easily identified the instability of Tomura's personality . During the Genesis Invasion, he hatched a plan to have copies of himself, created by Twice, distract Eraser Head and Vlad King, while simultaneously using his flames to trap numerous UA students in the forest of the Beast.🌳
Dabi's machinations may have caused Vanguard Action Squad three casualties, but they accomplished the goal of capturing Katsuki Bakugo. During the foray into the forest, one of Dabi's clones pierced Eraser Head's stoic nature with just a look. After the League captured Katsuki, Tomura wanted Dabi to remove his bonds, but Dabi refused, knowing that Katsuki would launch a surprise attack once he was freed, which proved true after Twice removed Katsuki's bonds.
While fighting Snatch on a highway, 🛣 Dabi effortlessly deduced and exploited the limitations of the Sand Hero's Quirk. Through this exploitation and the help of M.Compress, Dabi expressed that the lingering flames will kill the compressed Snatch, since the Hero Pro can only turn its upper body into sand. Once the Revival Festival was underway, where he was ambushed by Geten, Dabi, with insight, assessed the ice wielder to be a very strong opponent, all before their fight began. While subduing Hawks at the Gunga Mountain villa, Dabi revealed that he had suspected the wing hero of being the PLF's traitor, and therefore chose not to trust Hawks during the entire period when they knew each other.
To ensure Twice's escape , and knowing that he cannot keep up with Hawks' speed, Dabi destabilized the latter by announcing the hero's civilian name: Keigo Takami. Dabi quickly explained that he had obtained this information by looking into the backgrounds of Hawks and the League of Villains, but that no details were available regarding anyone other than Tomura and Hawks. After Tsukuyomi intervened, Dabi knew that Jet-Black Hero would try to escape quickly, so he intentionally lowered the power of his fire attacks in order to have enough energy for his new propulsion ability. 💥
Dabi's most notable form of guerrilla warfare was uploading his pre-recorded story to be broadcast worldwide, while revealing his true identity as Toya Todoroki to Endeavor and Shoto . In addition to explaining his abusive childhood, his kinship with Endeavor, and Endeavor's ambitions, Dabi also confessed to orchestrating his father's meetings with Hood, Starservant, and Ending in an attempt to discredit his father, a fact that brought Shoto in a rage.😡 Another nail in the coffin was Dabi's disclosure of part of Hawks' history, the wing hero being both the son of a serial criminal that Endeavor had already apprehended, and the one responsible for the deaths of Twice and Tsunagu Hakamata, murder being an act that heroes are not used to committing. These revelations were implemented to instill despair in Endeavor, as well as to strip people of their faith in heroes, which was successful in both cases.
Dabi Quirk
Cremation: Dabi's Quirk grants him the ability to generate highly destructive blue flames from his body. He has very developed control of his flames and can project them a good distance from him and in large quantities. Additionally, his flames possess greater firepower than his father , Endeavor's Hellflame Quirk, and they become even more powerful when Dabi feels strong emotions. 🤬 However, Dabi's body has a low tolerance for his own flames, as he inherited his mother's resistance to freezing temperatures, rather than his father's resistance to extreme heat, and he will burn himself if he use for extended periods.
Super moves
Flash Fire Fist: Endeavor's signature technique, later passed down to Dabi himself. Dabi raises his fire's temperature to its highest level and maximizes its power. Thus, Dabi can launch devastating attacks or increase his speed dramatically. ⚡
Flashfire Fist - Jet Burn: This attack allows Dabi to shoot a blast of fire at any target he desires. This attack is quite powerful, as it has been shown to seriously injure Shoto, rendering him unconscious. Dabi used this move against his youngest brother during the war against the Paranormal Liberation Front. Unlike his father, Dabi only shoots his fire rather than making direct contact with his opponent.🔥
Prominence Burn: This attack allows Dabi to launch a massive, concentrated beam of fire from his entire body, capable of vaporizing his target. Dabi almost used this move at full power against Endeavor but was intercepted by the sudden arrival of Best Jeanist on the battlefield. 🦸♂️
Dabi's past
Seeking to have a child capable of surpassing All Might, Enji Todoroki agreed to a Quirk marriage to Rei Himura . At the age of 22, her first child, Toya Todoroki, was born prematurely. Although he did not inherit his parents' Quirks, Toya was born with a Fire Quirk more powerful than Enji's own Hellflame, so when the time comes, his father will train him. Later that year, his sister Fuyumi Todoroki was born. 👶🏻
From a young age, Toya was constantly trained by his father and the young boy was actually very eager to learn all of his father's moves so that he could one day become a great hero. Although none of his children carried the ideal Quirk he hoped for, Enji was pleased with Toya and saw him capable of surpassing All Might with his powerful Fire Quirk alone, so he placed his ambitions on his shoulders.
The situation changed drastically when Toya's red hair began to turn white and his body suffered from burns every time he used his Quirk . Enji and Rei went to see a Quirk doctor to find out what was wrong with him. The Doctor explains that Toya inherited a powerful fire-based Quirk from his father, but he also inherited his mother's resistance to freezing cold, rather than his father's resistance to scorching heat, which means he burned himself every time he used his flames. Because of this, Toya was limited in the limits he could reach with his Quirk. 😨
Enji considered him a failure and suddenly stopped training him.❌ Toya, despite his Quirk's dangerous flaw, still wanted to be a pro Hero when he grew up. He began to beg his father to continue training him, but Enji refused, saying it was for his well-being, but Toya was not happy. Later, he talked to his sister Fuyumi and told her that he could tolerate the pain and burning, but little Fuyumi told Toya that she was also worried about him getting hurt . His words offended Toya, who shouted that she didn't understand him because she was a girl and left, saying that his father was the one who lit the fire in him to surpass All Might.
Toya began training on his own, although his father and sister tried to convince him to stop.🛑 Enji lamented that his son had also inherited his stubbornness and decided to have more children until that he designs a successor worthy of his ambitions. Rei stated that his idea was too cruel , especially considering that Toya finally achieved what he wanted to achieve through their children, but Enji considered that this plan would finally make Toya give up his obsession.
Years passed, and Enji and Rei had more children. This ultimately resulted in Natsuo's conception, causing Toya to begin to fall into despair while Endeavor's desire to surpass All Might continued to grow . Eventually, Shoto Todoroki was born, having inherited a perfect combination of both his parents' quirks. Enji had finally conceived the long-desired heir he had been searching for, but Toya despaired even more, as Shoto's birth implied that his entire purpose and his father's consciousness and attention had just been taken away from him. However, Toya was still determined to fulfill his father's dream and refused to give up on it. He continued to train on his own, then started going to Sekoto Peak, where his father used to train. 🥊
Enji told Toya to stop training in secret because he was covered in burns and told him to look beyond the world of heroes and do things like play with his siblings or make himself friends at school, saying he can understand this and that one day it will all be a distant memory. Toya, however, with tears in his eyes, told his father that everyone at school wants to be a hero himself, and that he couldn't understand what it's like to give up because he has him as a father. Enji lit the fire within him to surpass All Might and it doesn't go out, just as he calls him by his hero name rather than "father."
Their argument drew Rei and the rest of the kids to where they are. Demoralized, Toya tells his father to watch him, as he violently attacks his mother carrying an infant Shoto with his activated flames, attempting to harm his youngest brother. He is stopped before he can harm anyone, but after Toya's rampage, Enji decides to forbid the other siblings from interacting with Shoto so that he can focus on his training and confides in Rei takes care of watching over Toya. When Rei says that all Toya wants is for his father to recognize him, Enji replies that all he can show someone is the world of heroes 🦸♂️, to which Rei responds in a scathing way that he is only running away from his problems.
Over the next few years, Toya developed what seemed to be a great relationship with his siblings, they were always together and they always played together. This is especially true when it comes to his brother, Natsuo, but they were raised separately from their youngest brother, Shoto. Likewise, his father's traumatic abuse and subsequent abandonment had a strong emotional and mental impact on Toya, and he would often go to his brother Natsuo with tears in his eyes, wondering why he existed. 😭
Five years have passed since the incident, and Enji decided to train Shoto , preventing him from playing with his older siblings despite his pleas. Toya, aged 13, saw them and gave them a hateful look. 👀 Later that night, he confided his inner doubts to Natsuo, acknowledging that it was his fault for attacking Shoto, who had done nothing wrong, but fuming about his feelings towards their father and how he views the rest of his children as "failed creations", wondering if the only thing heroes did was make children and throw them away when they didn't need them. Natsuo, however, just wanted to sleep, and suggested Toya talk to Fuyumi every once in a while, Toya was hurt by the implication that Natsuo was pushing him away too, explaining that he was the only one Toya could talk to.
One day, when he was preparing to leave to train at Sekoto Peak 🏔 , Rei tried to dissuade him and make him think if he really wanted to become a hero, assuring him that there were other options than the world of heroes. Toya was enraged by her mother's words, yelling at her and asking her if she had read any self-help books lately. His statements leave Rei surprised as he continues his rant, saying that he already knows that she only married Enji because his family was poor and that's the only reason he was born, putting the responsibility for his problems on his shoulders as well.
Toya continued to train at Sekoto Peak, and during the winter season, when he had a growth spurt, his Quirk grew, and the color of his flames changed from red to blue. 🔵 Toya discovered that his flames are linked to his emotional state and become stronger if he is angry. He started crying saying he didn't know why he did it when he was upset. Soon after, excited to show his father how he had evolved, Toya asked him to come to Sekoto Peak the next time he had a day off. Enji, however, lifted his shirt and saw his burn scars , furious that Toya had trained again, but his son was adamant that he was destined for greatness and determined to make his father proud of him. Frustrated, Enji ignored his eldest son's pleas and lashed out at Rei for not stopping Toya.
Some time later, Toya waited for his father at Sekoto Peak, but Endeavor never came, much to Toya's disappointment and anguish. The emotional upheaval he felt caused him to lose control of his flames , resulting in a massive forest fire. Toya tried to run away, but he didn't know how to put out his flames, his father only teaching him to turn up the heat. He was burned by flames exceeding 2,000 degrees Celsius 🥵: his body is believed to have been cremated, and the only thing that was found was part of his jaw.
Her "death" affected her family , particularly her mother Rei, whose mental state had already been severely affected by her husband's past abuse, and her brother Natsuo, who still considers his father responsible for Toya's disappearance. . Toya's family set up a Butsudan Buddhist altar in her old room after she passed away and still send her prayers. Even Enji is seen praying there, saying he regrets the loss of his eldest son. 😔
However, Toya did not die but was left with severe burns and grew up without his family knowing the truth. 🤫 Toya's traumatic childhood abuse caused him to become a villain , renaming himself Dabi and dying his hair black to hide his true identity. Over the years, Dabi has secretly observed his father's actions from afar. Accepting his new life as a villain, Dabi slowly hatched a plan to ruin Enji's life by destroying his career as a hero.
Synopsis
Vs. Hero Killer Arc
Dabi watches a public broadcast about the news of the Hero Killer's capture. 👮🏻♂️ Inspired by Stain's ideology , Dabi decides to get closer to the organization that was thought to defend Stain 's cause: the League of Villains.
Final Exams Arc
Giran brings Dabi and Himiko Toga to the League of Villains' hideout. Dabi points out that the leader of the group, Tomura Shigaraki, looks rude. Tomura is unhappy with the recruits and immediately asks Kurogiri to eliminate them. Kurogiri refuses and Giran introduces Dabi as a criminal who has not committed rowdy crimes but follows Stain's ideology. Dabi says he's not sure of the league's motives and asks if they would really let a crazy girl like Himiko join them. 👱🏻♀️
Tomura notices that she introduced herself and asks Dabi her name, but he says he won't reveal it until later . Dabi continues by saying that he will make the Hero Killer's wish come true. Tomura is very irritated by Dabi and Himiko's comments about Stain, to the point of attacking them. Dabi and Himiko prepare to defend themselves, but Kurogiri intervenes and uses his Quirk to prevent them from coming to blows. Tomura storms off as Dabi complains about his attitude. Kurogiri asks Giran and the recruits to wait for a proper response at a later date. 📆
Forest Training Camp Arc
Dabi is eventually recruited into the League of Villains and tasked with leading a team of elite villains called Genesis Squadron. Tomura buys equipment for the team and asks them to collect it from an unknown warehouse. ❓
Dabi agrees and says that Tomura acted like a brat and an attacker when they first met, but now he's suddenly taking matters into his own hands. Dabi proclaims that their mission will be a warning shot that will knock the false heroes off their resplendent pedestals and bring them back to earth to create a new future for the world. 🌍
The next day, Dabi and six other villains secretly arrive at the Wild, Wild Pussycats forest preserve where the students of UA High School are training. Team Genesis watches the encampment from a high vantage point. 📷 The group members start arguing about their next move, so Dabi tells them to shut up. Dabi announces that the League of Villains' first task is to take away the students' sense of security.
The Vanguard Action Squad begins its assault the following evening. Dabi uses his power to set the Beast Forest ablaze with blue fire. Dabi keeps the fire going while the other villains search for Katsuki Bakugo, who is their target. Twice makes clones of Dabi so they can distract the UA teachers. Dabi waits outside the base camp building and surprise attacks Eraser Head on his way out. He blasts Eraser Head with a blast of blue flames, but the hero escapes and erases Dabi's power by watching him. He overpowers the villain and tackles him to the ground before interrogating him for information on his allies. Dabi refuses to comply and frees himself once a few students arrive. Eraser Head goes to restrain Dabi again, but the clone disappears as Dabi taunts him, leaving Eraser Head shocked. 😲
Dabi tells Twice that the clone was defeated too quickly. Twice rejects Dabi's claim. He argues comically until Dabi orders him to make another clone to keep the Heroes at bay. The clone attacks the base camp again. He explodes one of the classrooms and is quickly subdued by the Blood Hero: Vlad King. The clone harasses Vlad King until Eraser Head arrives and destroys him. 👊🏻
Mr. Compress manages to capture Katsuki , compressing him into a marble alongside Fumikage Tokoyami, and arranges to meet the team by radio. Twice complains and Dabi says Mr. Compress did a good job. Dabi seems to notice Yuga Aoyama hiding behind a bush, but before he can act, Twice reminds him to call Nomu back. Twice had to remind Dabi to unleash Nomu on the students earlier. Dabi remembers that the Nomu was designed for him and that it will only react to his voice. He then waves to the Nomu as he and Twice walk towards the meeting place.
Dabi and Twice first meet Himiko. Dabi asks how her mission went and Himiko replies that she was only able to collect one blood sample. As Twice and Himiko start bantering, Dabi tells them to be quiet and notices a trio of students attacking Mr. Compress: Izuku Midoriya, Shoto Todoroki, and Mezo Shoji. 🧊
Dabi, unimpressed by this entrance, orders Mr. Compress to move out of the way and he does so by using his Compression Quirk on himself. Dabi throws a fireball that burns Mezo and Izuku. 🔥 The other villains attack the students and Mr. Compress signals to give the captured students to Dabi. He wanted to keep their compressed marble bodies in his pocket, but Mezo stole them.
Kurogiri arrives to evacuate the villains as their objective has been achieved. Dabi refuses to leave without Katsuki, but Mr. Compress assures him that he was hiding the real marbles this whole time. Hiding in the shadows, Yuga shoots Mr. Compress in the face and he knocks the marbles out of his mouth. Mezo is able to get Fumikage back, but Dabi secures Katsuki's marble before Shoto reaches him. Dabi mocks Shoto's attempt and orders Mr. Compress to confirm Katsuki's body. Katsuki returns to his normal body with Dabi's hand around his neck. Dabi announces checkmate and the bad guys disappear into the portal. 🌌
Arc Raid against the Alliance of Villains
Having completed their mission, Dabi and the Vanguard Action Team return to the hideout. They overpower Katsuki and bring him before Tomura.
Tomura tells Katsuki about the League of Villains' goal of reforming hero society. Then he asks Dabi to remove his bonds. Dabi claims that Katsuki is going to fight, but Tomura asks him to do it anyway. Dabi orders Twice to remove the bonds, then Katsuki immediately hits Tomura in the face with a blast. Katsuki tells the League that he will never join them because he wants to be a Hero like All Might. 🦸♂️
Magne comments that Katsuki is smart for realizing his own value to the villains. Dabi argues that he's an idiot for fighting. Tomura hands over the fallen hands and asks that no one hurt Katsuki. Tomura asks All For One to lend him his power and then orders Mr. Compress to restrain Katsuki. 🧨
The League of Villains is interrupted by the unexpected arrival of what appears to be a pizza delivery. Then All Might suddenly bursts through the opposite wall with God Sylvester and the latter restrains all the bad guys with his lacquered chain prison technique . Dabi attempts to free himself from the wooden bonds by lighting his flames, but Gran Torino arrives and stops Dabi by knocking him out with a swift kick to the head. 🦶
Dabi and the other villains are saved when All for One transports them to the destroyed Nomu factory. All For One activates the unconscious Kurogiri's Quirk and orders the League of Villains to capture Katsuki and retreat. Mr. Compress uses his Quirk to compress Dabi's body into a ball . All the villains are forced to flee the battlefield when All For One uses Magne's power to force them into the portal.
Kai Chisaki Arc
Three weeks after the Battle of Kamino, the League of Villains splits in order to go into hiding and recruit like-minded individuals. Dabi enters an alley, hoping to find recruits there. 🌆
The low-level thugs threaten to kill Dabi and he admits that they are just low-level thugs. He tells them to get out of his way and burns them all to death with his Quirk. Dabi mocks them, stating that they are trash and the least they can do is become kindling for his flames.
While busy with these matters, Tomura and other members of the League of Villains have a clandestine meeting with the current leader of the Shie Hassaikai, Overhaul. A series of disagreements and differences of opinion generate a confrontation between them which ends with Magne's death and Mr. Compress losing an arm. Despite this, Dabi is present at the meeting where Tomura informs them that they will form an alliance with Chief Kai Chisake. Dabi says nothing, but Twice and Himiko are unhappy with this decision, but Tomura assures them that it is for the good of the League, and that the time when they can avenge Magne and Mr. Compress will come. 🏆
A few days later, Overhaul's compound is assaulted by the heroes, and with the help of Twice and Himiko, they manage to defeat the entire organization and arrest its members. In the aftermath of the Overhaul raid, Dabi accompanies Tomura, Spinner and Mr. Compress on their mission to confront Overhaul, who has been defeated. Tomura claims his plan is as simple as a game of Shogi. Dabi states that Shogi is not that simple.
The League of Villains engages a police convoy carrying Overhaul inside one of the trucks while he is restrained and strapped to a medical bed. Dabi tells Spinner to stop driving erratically because it's giving him motion sickness. He keeps his cool and attacks the convoy with a large blast of flamethrower, causing the Sand Hero: Snatch to appear in one of the trucks. 🚚
Dabi recognizes Snatch as a powerful hero while Tomura fights him. He also notes that Tomura's infamy has made him far too famous. Tomura crashes several trucks into each other while Dabi confronts Snatch himself. He makes fun of Snatch who is a hero who must always intervene to save others . Snatch recognizes Dabi as the villain associated with a series of murders whose corpses were burned. Dabi admits he's excited to hear about his notoriety.
Snatch attacks Dabi with a sand tiger move and Dabi counters with a large blast of fire.💥 While Snatch is distracted, Mr. Compress uses his power to trap him in a marble with Dabi's flames. Mr. Compress accidentally burns himself and then asks Dabi if Snatch's sand can burn. Dabi thinks Snatch can only turn his upper body into sand and will probably die during the compression.
Tomura takes revenge on Overhaul by destroying his arms. Spinner warns his allies that police reinforcements will arrive soon. Dabi, Mr. Compress, and Tomura return to the truck as the flames of their destruction burn in the background.
Pro Heroes Arc
Dabi is tasked with testing one of Doctor Ujiko's high-end Nomu . At Hidamari Kindergarten, the same day as the Hero Billboard Chart JP release, Dabi tells High-End "Hood" that this is the first smart Nomu and that he expects good results. Hood attacks Pro Heroes #1 and 2: Endeavor and Hawks. Dabi watches from the city limits as Endeavor narrowly wins their fight. With both Heroes injured from their fight and before they can call for help, Dabi confronts them himself and greets Endeavor. 👋🏻
Dabi confronts the two heroes and traps them in a wall of fire . Endeavor recognizes Dabi as the villain who murdered Snatch and Dabi claims he has no idea who he is talking about. Dabi tells Endeavor he wants to talk while they have the chance. Hawks stands up to Dabi and the latter states that he would not try to defeat the two best heroes alone. Dabi then says that they are both at death's door and decides to attack, that's when Mirko interrupts and attacks Dabi from above. His fearsome kick keeps him at bay, making Dai aware of his disadvantage. Dabi then calls Ujiko to use her Quirk to make him leave. Before leaving, Dabi calls Endeavor by his real name and tells him not to die. ❌
Afterwards, Dabi meets with Hawks to discuss the Nomu attack. Hawks is angry at Dabi for not sticking to their original plan and holds a blade to his neck. Unfazed, Dabi responds that Hawks wasn't supposed to bring someone as powerful as Endeavor. He questions the battle's low casualties, insisting that a sympathizer of the villains would not have acted so heroically.
Hawks explains that he must keep a heroic appearance for the public in order to make himself more useful to the League of Villains . Understanding, Dabi walks away and tells Hawks that he can't meet their leader yet, but will contact him again in the future.
As he heads towards the port, Dabi remembers Snatch and is seemingly moved by the hero's last words to him. Dabi says thinking about all the families he's touched almost drives him crazy. He wipes some blood from the patch under his eye as if he were crying.
Super Powers Release Arc
The League of Villains has seen better days. They are barely getting by, with no funds, and have had to resort to stealing from other criminal groups and living in a dilapidated building. Rather than participating in robberies, Dabi spends his time trying to recruit new members . He returns to his filthy hideout and blames his allies for doing nothing.
Twice responds that Dabi burns everyone he meets.🔥 Dabi claims he burns them because they are trash with no ambition and Himiko mocks him for being a poor judge of character. Spinner confronts Tomura about the state of the League and admits that he is only here to fill his empty heart with new purpose. Dabi mocks him for being just a hollow cosplayer of Stain.
They are interrupted by an intense roar that brings the bad guys outside. The League of Villains comes face to face with a giant who claims to be searching for All For One's successor. Dabi questions the identity of this titan and Tomura states that it is the secret weapon that Kurogiri was captured trying to retrieve. The giant quickly overpowers the League, while the voice of All For One's doctor is broadcast from the beast's radio, hanging around his neck. 🔊
The Doctor explains that the giant's name is Gigantomachia and that he is All For One's former bodyguard. Gigantomachia went into hiding before All For One's defeat and the Doctor claims that this meeting was part of his plan. Dabi responds that the big guy isn't exactly a generous gift and lights his flames . Dabi blasts Gigantomachia into blue flames. Shocked, Dabi watches as the giant sweeps away the fire while Himiko tells him that his attack didn't work.
A recording of All For One's voice soothes Gigantomachia and calms him down. The Doctor teleports the League to his lair using Kamino's warping power. Dabi immediately notices the Nomu housed in the laboratory. The Doctor praises Dabi's keen eye and introduces himself as Daruma Ujiko. Annoyed, Dabi asks why the League is at the lair and the Doctor replies that they need to prove themselves if they want his support. 👍🏻
In response, Tomura explains his past and why he wants to destroy everything. Annoyed, Dabi stays away with the others who don't seem to understand Tomura's distortion. The Doctor accepts Tomura but he will not fully support the League until they defeat Gigantomachia. Dabi refuses to help because he wants to spend more time recruiting a potential ally. Tomura says he can't wait to see who he brings and the Doctor tells Dabi he can help test a High-End for him.
Following this, the High-End Hood's attack on Endeavor and Hawks takes place. Nearly a month and a half later, Dabi contacts Hawks by phone, and gives Hero Number 2 one final mission to prove himself to the League: he must kill a specific person . 🔪
A few days later, while Dabi is hiding on the border between Iwe and Shiga, Re-Destro, leader and great commander of the Powers Liberation League, contacts Tomura. Re-Destro informs him that they captured and tortured his broker Giran in order to find them, as the ALM considers Tomura and his allies to be a threat to their plans . For this reason, he declares war on the League, and informs them that if they do not go to Deika Ciry to confront them, they will use their influence so that they will have to face a force of Heroes. 🦸♀️
Tomura accepts the challenge and orders the Doctor to teleport everyone to Deika City, where the confrontation is to take place. Dabi is also teleported to Deika City and regroups with the others for a war against the Meta Liberation Army. ❌ Dabi is annoyed that they dragged him into their mission to retrieve Giran and this angers Twice. Himiko notices someone approaching the group and Dabi prepares his flames. It's actually an escort, the pro hero Sliding Go.
Sliding Go leads the villains through the seemingly abandoned town where they eventually encounter Koku Hanabata and Chitose Kizuki , two high-ranking army officials. Koku initiates the Liberation Army's rebirth celebration and dozens of citizens suddenly ambush the villains. 🦹♂️
Dabi appears to avoid direct combat while dodging various Quirks aimed at the League. Spinner notices that no matter how many warriors are defeated, they continue to arrive in waves. Dabi responds that Spinner hasn't defeated a single one yet . Koku Hanabata uses his campaign van to announce that Chitose has died at the hands of Himiko. The warriors are enraged and attack Tomura, who counterattacks by killing them all with a single wave of his hand.
Impressed, Dabi realizes it's time for him to get serious when suddenly a hooded man attempts to crush him with two giant ice gauntlets. Dabi avoids him and admits that he has become stronger and can now recognize at first glance that this new fighter is also tough. 👊🏻 Geten asks Dabi why he hasn't used his large array of flames to attack yet, suggesting something is wrong with his abilities.
Dabi smiles and counterattacks with a wave of flames that melts his opponent's ice.🥶 The Ice Warrior collects ice from all nearby buildings and gathers it into a huge frozen figure. He claims to have perfected his power without school his entire life. Dabi taunts him for living a sad life and the elements of their Quirks collide, splitting the battlefield.
The blue flames prove more ferocious and have the advantage over Geten's ice. Dabi taunts his opponent, calling him outclassed since his ice cream is gone. Mr. Compress struggles nearby with other warriors and asks for help. Dabi asks why he should help when an army of Twice clones is heading their way. The doubles fight to protect Dabi and Mr. Compress from the other warriors. Several of them decide to try to overtake Dabi, but Mr. Compress strongly advises them to save fodder for when Gigantomachia awakens . 😴
Geten takes out a large portion of Twice's Sad Mans parade with a barrage of ice. Confused, Dabi asks if this town makes ice cream specifically. The Iceman explains that he can lower the temperature of the city's water in order to produce more ice. Dabi calls him hateful for not taking the lead in the fight and Geten responds by saying that the Liberation Army will create a world where status is achieved through the strength of one's meta ability.
Dabi thinks Geten's words about pure strength sound miserable and rudely asks him to collapse and die. The Ice Warrior claims that Dabi will be the one to die, as he can feel his body burning from here. Geten has observed Dabi's power and believes his body is not compatible with it . Dabi's blue flames begin to eat away at his body, meaning it's difficult for him to fight prolonged battles. 🕐 Mr. Compress wishes they could stick the Gigantomachy on the Iceman and worries about Dabi's fate. Doctor Ujiko notices that the League is in danger and wakes the giant early.
Despite his injuries, Dabi fights against Geten in a battle of elements. Their fight continues until both fighters are exhausted and Gigantomachia enters the city. The giant proves far more powerful than the army can face, and Mr. Compress realizes they were foolish to underestimate him. Mr. Compress asks Dabi to finish this battle so they can save Tomura before the giant reaches him. ⌛
Worried for himself, Geten flees the area and attempts to stop the giant on his own, but is easily brushed aside . Annoyed and smoking from his wounds, Dabi claims he was about to burn that ice monster before running away. 🔥 Tomura wins against the leader of the Meta Liberation Army and destroys half the city with his Quirk. Re-Destro concedes and cedes the Liberation Army to him.
The members of the League of Villains all survive the battle and recuperate for a week in a new mansion. Dabi finds Hawks and confirms that he killed a man as requested. He is not sure if it is really Beast Jeaniste but invites him to the next meeting anyway. 💌
As he eats sushi, Mr. Compress says it's the calm after the storm. Dabi responds that Mr. Compress did nothing during the battle . Spinner asks Dabi for his sushi and Dabi lets him have it because he hates fish.
Dabi and all his allies are driven underground by Skeptic and Trumpet of the Liberation Army. With Tomura as the new leader, the League of Villains and the Meta Liberation Army merge to become the Paranormal Liberation Front. Dabi is one of the nine lieutenants appointed by Tomura and will receive a team tailor-made for him. 💪🏻
Dabi then meets up with Hawks sometime after the ceremony and greets Hero #2, wondering about the latter's sudden change in mood. Hawks decides not to reveal to Dabi his real opinion regarding the new formation of the Paranormal Liberation Front.
My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising
Sometime after the confrontation, Tomura and his allies gain information about one of Ujiko's projects involving the Quirk and body enhancement when they are asked to transfer a large cargo to an unknown location. The League asks Ujiko what's in the shipment, to which the Doctor simply replies that it has nothing to do with them . That being said, Dabi, Spinner, and Mr. Compress are assigned to this task. Although they resent being treated like ordinary delivery men, the three agree to carry out Ujiko's request. 🚚
On a winter night, the League uses an armored truck to transfer cargo while fleeing a group of Heroes on night duty. It turns out that information about Ujiko's project was leaked and the Heroes apparently formed a trap to prevent the League from escaping. When Rock Lock and his partner try to approach, Dabi comes out of one of the truck's windows and unleashes a fiery blast directly at them. This forces Rock Lock to use Deadbolt to protect him and his partner, preventing them from continuing to pursue them. 🏃🏻♂️ The other two also push the Heroes away but one of them manages to get into the truck. Dabi acts quickly and brutally incinerates the Hero to death before he can do anything.
Although they managed to block their pursuers, Spinner wonders who alerted the heroes of their escape route, to which Dabi replies that it must have been an information leak.👨🏻💻 Endeavor and his small team reveal themselves at the end of the path, surprising both Spinner and Mr. Compress. Dabi, meanwhile, rejoices at Endeavor's arrival and throws another big shot at him. Endeavor counters it by using Flashfire Fist Jet Burn, causing both attacks to cancel each other out.
Spinner decides to speed up the truck while Dabi prepares to release a more powerful blast of his flames, both intending to kill Endeavor on the spot. Unfazed by this sudden move, Endeavor tells his allies to leave the scene while he retaliates with Prominence Burn, which ultimately breaks Dabi's attack and consumes the truck in an explosion of flames. 🔥 The villains turn into slime because they are clones created by Twice. The burning truck goes off the road and crashes into a nearby forest, which turned out to be exactly where Ujiko wanted them to drop off the cargo.
A few days later, the League goes to an abandoned cabin . They discuss the identities of the people who were inside the conveyor, but Dabi thinks they weren't very important, as Ujiko mentioned before. Despite their discussion, all members (except Tomura) still don't know what was actually inside the convoy. 🚛
Endeavor Agency Arc
As the Paranormal Liberation Front prepares for the months to come, Dabi sends Starservant to cause havoc in a nearby town. Later, Dabi and his allies (except Tomura and Geten) attend a meeting where Hawks informs them of Endeavor's decision to take on two new trainees other than Shoto. Dabi comments that he feels like the trainees haven't changed since the boot camp incident. The lieutenants are also informed of Tomura's ultimate plan to destroy everything in about 4 months, once the latter completes his upgrades. Then, Dabi will soon send Ending to attack Endeavor and his new trainees. 👨🏻💼
Paranormal Liberation War Arc
Once four months have passed, Dabi is assigned as commander for the " Paranormal Liberation Front " alongside Geten.👻 When the Heroes launch their attack on the Paranormal Liberation Front, Dabi and the other lieutenants are not unaware of the raid, until they noticed that the Gunga Mountain Villa Manor was splitting thanks to the power of Cementoss.
The lieutenants of the Paranormal Liberation Front decide to evacuate their subordinates and send their lower-ranking advisors to fight the coming storm. While everyone else evacuates, Dabi heads to another location in mind. Hearing Twice scream, Dabi goes straight to the scene, knowing that Hawks has betrayed the organization.
Dabi eventually reaches where Twice and Hawks are fighting . He takes the time to listen to what Hawks has to say about his role. Dabi then springs into action by firing a large flamethrower to save Twice. Dabi enters the room and approaches an injured Hawks, who has been badly burned by his flames. The villain steps on Hawks' face while emitting flames from his soles, mocking the hero for making excuses for his heroic behavior. Hawks, however, reveals that he survived Dabi's assault thanks to his wings carrying him and Twice to safety. 🦅
Dabi tells Hawks that he lost most of his feathers for the fight. Hawks blames Dabi for almost burning his friend, but Dabi admits that heroes are expected to put their lives on the line. Dabi smugly reveals that he never considered trusting Hawks since his "cooperation" with the League began. With that, Dabi launches another barrage of flames directly at the Winged Hero, causing a large explosion outside the ruined mansion.
Twice manages to escape Hawks' hold and tells Dabi to continue attacking Hawks. Dabi then encourages Twice to go wild and fight at full strength, praising his comrade while holding back Hawks with his flames. Unfortunately, Hawks flew out of Dabi's reach, shocking the flame villain once again. Dabi calls Hawks by his real name to catch the hero off guard, while throwing another flamethrower. This gives Twice barely enough time to escape, but Hawks delivers a killing blow to the villain, killing him in the process. 💀
Upon realizing that Twice is dead, Dabi lashes out at Hawks, sarcastically mocking the hero for killing his comrade. Dabi continues to hit Hawks with all the rage and anger he has inside of him. Hawks wonders why Dabi is smiling after witnessing Twice's death. Dabi reveals that he can't cry because he burned his tear glands in the past and that he is upset by Twice's death because he was necessary for his own dream to come true. 😥 Hawks then asks Dabi's true identity, to which the villain responds in a sinister tone. Dabi reveals that he never cared about Shigaraki or the League. All he cared about was taking Stain's ideology and spreading it around the world. As the villain prepares to burn Hawks, Dabi is repelled by the timely arrival of Tsukuyomi.
Dabi tells Fumikage that it is pathetic that the UA forced its students to go to the battlefield and cruelly points out that Hawks murdered Twice when the latter was trying to protect his friends. This shocks Fumikage to the core. Dabi then asks Fumikage why he is here and makes fun of him because he admires a Hero who is much dirtier than the Villains. However, Fumikage refuses to weaken at Dabi's words, making the latter understand the situation. Dabi prepares his flames just as Fumikage prepares Dark Shadow to try to get him and Hawks to safety.
The villain pulls out a large flamethrower to burn the two Heroes, nearly burning Fumikage to death in the process. Hawks, barely conscious, tells Fumikage that Dabi will continue talking as his taunts serve to recharge his flames, telling his trainee to leave. Fumikage sends Dark Shadow to attack Dabi but the attack misses. Dabi then jumps and uses his flames on his feet to glide down and pursue Fumikage and Hawks. Noticing that his teacher is unconscious, Fumikage attempts to use Black Fallen Angel but Dabi appears in front of them hovering. He prepares to reduce them to ashes by specifying that he saw Hawks' betrayal coming. However, their skirmish is interrupted by Geten's sudden ice attack, allowing Fumikage and Hawks to escape. 🏃🏻♂️
Soon after, Dabi joins Mr. Compress as the villains begin to retaliate against the heroes. Dabi asks Mr. Compress where the other PLF members are, to which Mr. Compress replies that he was supposed to be with the other lieutenants. The flame villain admits that the entire regiment never functioned due to the sudden attack launched by the Heroes, suggesting that they should escape for the time being. Mr. Compress then reveals that he witnessed Twice's death, causing Himiko to lose her temper. Dabi silently watches as Himiko kills other heroes in revenge for her friend's death. 😡
When Gigantomachia begins acting under Tomura's orders, Dabi is among the other FPL lieutenants who ride on the behemoth's back. As Gigantomachia attempts to break through Mount Lady, who is trying to hold him back, the villains discuss what happened when he suddenly grabbed them all. Dabi deduces that Tomura woke up , otherwise Gigantomachia wouldn't even move. While talking, Dabi restrains a distraught Skeptic who tries to escape from the behemoth.
Gigantomachia decides to take a shortcut to reach Tomura faster, he throws Mt. Lady by the foot and rushes towards his destination. Kamui Woods and Midnight try to intervene but Kamui is sprayed by a jet of flames, offered by Dabi himself. Midnight manages to assist the League on Gigantomachia's back but ends up crashing into a group of construction debris released by Mr. Compress.
With the pursuing Pros out of their way, Gigantomachia and the League continue to escape while an injured Mt Lady and the Sylvan God struggle to drag him to the ground. However, their escape is cut short by the Raid Villa rescue team, who end up sending Gigantomachia crashing to the ground with his Quirks. The villains then notice several students charging directly at them. Kyoka attempts to attack with her Amplifier Jack but Dabi blasts them with his flames , forcing her to retract them. Denki follows up by firing several of his discs near the villains' positions, but due to Reiko throwing him at a bad angle, he is knocked down by Mr. Compress's remaining building debris. 🏢
Gigantomachia opens his mouth, almost allowing the students to throw out the sedatives, only for the behemoth to blow away most of them with his breath. Dabi releases more of his flames to hold back the remaining students on the battlefield, causing more steam to escape from his body. He then comments that he has heard that having multiple Quirks allows the user to stay more active in battle, a trait that Gigantomachia possesses. However, Red Riot manages to climb up Gigantomachia's arm and throws the sedative into his mouth, just as another group of Heroes joins the fray. 🦸♂️ Despite everything, Gigantomachia manages to crush the pro Heroes and escapes without any scratches. The juggernaut ends up passing through several cities, destroying everything in its path, followed by the remaining members of the FPL.
As Gigantomachia finally arrives at Tomura's location and protects him from Neijire and Shoto's combined attacks, Dabi appears from behind the giant villain to announce his arrival to the heroes on the ground, pleasantly realizing that Endeavor and Shoto are there. Endeavor angrily shouts Dabi's name, but the villain responds by telling Endeavor to call him by another name: Toya. Endeavor and Shoto are frozen in shock when Dabi removes his dye to reveal his white hair and his identity as Endeavor's eldest son. 🔥 Dabi continues by saying that he has been watching Endeavor this entire time and began broadcasting his past to the world to discredit his father, while telling Endeavor about the terrible pain he endured when he was child, wondering why he existed . His original plan was to kill Shoto when he became a hero, but after Endeavor took first place, Dabi decided to send multiple threats, such as Hood, Starservant, and Ending in his father's place. He then asks Endeavor if he feels good now that he is the number one hero and can now look at his children with pride. He yells that Endeavor is wrong to believe that he can keep moving forward, and that the past never dies, while mocking his father and telling them to dance together in this hell.
Endeavor refuses to believe him, claiming that Dabi is telling a despicable lie, but the villain replies that it is the despicable truth, telling them to take some of his blood or saliva for a DNA test to be sure. At the same time, Dabi reveals his blood tests on his show to confirm his identity as Endeavor's son while continuing to deride his father as a man who completely lacks empathy. The show then shows doctored footage of Hawks killing Twice to make it appear that the number two hero mercilessly killed a man who was trying to save his friends and portray him as a murderer, while also revealing that Hawks killed Best Jeanist, hero number three. Dabi also reveals Hawks' past: Hawks' father was a serial thief and murderer who was ironically arrested by Endeavor. The villain derides the heroes as individuals who only care about themselves and use others to promote themselves. Dabi thanks Endeavor for holding on so far, then jumps down, preparing to take out his father and the others with his Prominence Burn, but before he can do so, he is pinned down by wires. He looks up and is surprised to see hero number three, whom he thought was dead, fall from the sky.💀
Dabi is surprised by the arrival of the hero, he who thought he was dead. 💀 Best Jeanist tells him that he has exceeded his ambitions and will now fall apart like inferior denim. Dabi, however, says that even if Best Jeanist is alive, that doesn't sweep the Todoroki family's harsh truth under the rug. Nejire Chan, meanwhile, attempts to strike Tomura, but unfortunately gets blown away by Dabi's flames, as he burns through the wires, much to the horror of Shoto and the others. As she falls from the sky, Dabi tells Endeavor that once again, another child with a bright future has been burned by her flames as he breaks free from his bonds. Shoto desperately begs Dabi to stop . As Shoto clashes with his brother, he reveals to Dabi that one of the villains he sent Endeavor's way almost killed Natsuo, the one he claimed to cry about every day. Dabi, however, just says that it's a shame he didn't die, because then Endeavor would have suffered more. An incredulous Shoto asks his brother if he's crazy and Dabi confirms that he no longer feels anything. He begins to push Shoto away, excited at the thought of finally being able to kill his little brother.
As Dabi continues to fight and taunt Shoto in mid-air, he traps him in his arms and releases his flames. Shoto warns him that by doing this he would get burned too, but Dabi replies that it is fine with him since he can see Endeavor motionless and seemingly broken as his " puppet masterpiece " dies in the fire. his "failed experiment", and that he relishes the opportunity to see what face Endeavor will make once Shoto is reduced to ashes when Deku suddenly catches him with Blackwhip.⚫ Dabi quickly breaks free from a knockdown heatstroke also Shoto and Deku, scolding the latter for meddling in his family matters. As he falls, Deku retorts that Endeavor is his mentor, and that even if the past never dies, the latter always tries to redeem himself, then he finally adds that Dabi is not Endeavor. Dabi mocks Deku for stating the obvious, then argues that he is the pitiful result of a hero's cruelty, that justice is losing to evil, and that what comes next is a future where chaos will blow away all the hypocrisy of the heroes.
In a final confrontation, as Shoto attempts to use Flashfire Fist : Jetburn on Dabi, the latter responds with a larger and more powerful version of the same attack which overwhelms and knocks out his younger brother.👦🏻 He sarcastically apologizes to from him and leaves the battlefield because killing Shoto now would be useless for Dabi if Endeavor is about to pass out and isn't completely broken yet. He then encounters Mr. Compress who uses his atler on him and Skeptic and puts it in Spinner's sling so he can escape with the rest of the league. The Heroes attempt to stop the remaining league members minus Gigantomachia, Himiko, Mr. Compress and Skeptic from escaping with the surviving Near High-Ends, but all is in vain as they continue to escape the battlefield.
After the League manages to escape to one of his hideouts, Dabi is later seen sitting next to All For One (possessing Shigaraki) who is gloating about the series of escapes he caused in all Japan. He then asks Dabi and Spinner to stand guard while he leaves Shigaraki's body to rest. 💤
Two days later, Dabi is lying on a couch in the old Creature Reject Clan mansion, staring at his own burn scars and commenting on how they have gotten worse even though he doesn't feel any different. 😈
Later, upon seeing his father give a speech, Dabi is disappointed that he didn't completely break his father's resolve after his father revealed his abuse to his family to the world, laughing for not going far enough.
Dabi's family
Enji Todoroki
The flame hero Endeavor is Dabi's father. Dabi seems to be very angry with Enji for rejecting him in the past and feeling like he was being used as a tool. In fact, Enji's violence towards him seems to be the main reason for his descent into villainy. 👿
At first, the relationship between Toya and his father was relatively healthy; Endeavor didn't seem to put his eldest son through as hard training as he did with Shoto and spoke with Toya in a more casual manner, and Toya was also very excited to learn all of his father's moves. However, when Endeavor was informed by a doctor that Toya's body gave him resistance to freezing temperatures, he realized that his son would not be able to surpass All Might. Enji didn't want to see his son get seriously physically injured, but despite his warnings, Toya continued to train and injure himself in the process. In an attempt to make him give up his dream and give birth to a child with the right power, Enji had two more children until Shoto was born. This only strengthened Toya's determination to train and be recognized by his father. Enji tried his best to get Toya to give up and find something else in life, but despite his best efforts, Toya couldn't give up on his dream of becoming the next number one, much to Enji's frustration and anguish.
Because he inherited his mother's weak constitution, Toya was ultimately considered a failure and neglected by his father as well as his younger siblings Fuyumi and Natsuo, as Enji chose to focus his efforts solely on Shoto. 🧊 Toya was still determined that his father would recognize him, and continued to train his Quirk. After experiencing a growth spurt that gave him blue flames, Toya excitedly went to his father and asked him to come to Sekoto Peak to see a surprise, pulling his hair and crying hoping that his improvement would make Enji happy. having created. When his father failed to show up at Sekoto Peak, Toya was devastated and heartbroken, which caused an explosion of flames, leading to a fire in which Toya was reportedly cremated. Toya managed to survive, however, and after being constantly abused and abandoned by Enji, Toya hid in the shadows and secretly observed Endeavor's actions from afar, planning to take revenge on him for the torment he suffered in as a villain, Dabi.
Many years later, Dabi finally faces Endeavor after the hero defeats High-End. Dabi greeted him and was amused by the fact that the latter didn't know him even though he seemed to know a lot about him. Dabi earned his father's disgust after ignoring Snatch's murder. Dabi attempted to attack the weakened Endeavor but decided to retreat when Mirko appeared on the scene, despite telling his father that they would see each other again while calling his real name angrily. He then sent Starservant and Ending to make Endeavor suffer even more than before.
At the time of the Paranormal Liberation War, Dabi happily reveals his true identity as Toya to Endeavor when he reaches their location on Gigantomachia. 😲 He also reveals everything about Endeavor's past to the audience, out of pure hatred for his father. This deeply shocks Endeavor, to the point where he feels devastated to see his eldest child become a villain. Dabi also admits to wanting to make Endeavor suffer for the rest of his life, believing that he deserves no redemption for his past sins. Although Dabi seems to be aware of his own misdeeds, he claims that they will dance together in hell. He continues to mock and deride his father whenever possible, blaming the injuries or deaths of others that Dabi causes, such as when he blasts Nejire Hado with his power, to make suffer more Endeavor. Later, after successfully subduing his younger brother, but seeing that their father had lost consciousness, Toya had chosen not to kill Shoto because he wanted to savor their father's pain and misery when he saw him finish his " masterpiece" and chose to retreat in order to prolong their father's misery.
Later, after regaining consciousness after the battle against him and Gigantomachia , Enji is shown lamenting his past abuse and abandonment of Toya and deeply regrets his past actions towards him, recognizing that his eldest son managed to ruin his career as a hero. Later, Enji breaks down and admits that although he is a mass murderer, he cannot fight against his eldest son. Dabi also calls her by her full name, showing his detachment towards her.
Seeing his father give a speech, Dabi was disappointed that he hadn't completely broken his father's resolve after he revealed to the world the abuse he inflicted on his family. 👪
Rei Todoroki
Unlike his father, Toya seemed to be very close to his mother Rei when he was a child, according to Natsuo and Fuyumi. It is also mentioned by Natsuo that Toya's "death" greatly devastated Rei, whose mental state had already been badly affected by her husband's past abuse. Many years later, Rei will still think of Toya without knowing that he is still alive in the form of the evil Dabi . 🦹♂️
As their family's memories show, Rei loved and cared for her eldest son very much. She was very worried about him when she learned that his body had the particularity of having resistance to frost and his father's power of fire, and even more so when his body began to accumulate burns almost daily. because he insisted on training despite it. Later, when she realized Toya's stubbornness, Rei was very distraught when her husband proposed his plan to make him "give up", having realized that her son was already aware of what her husband wanted in having other children and that she was worried about the mental anguish he would experience.
If Rei loved her son very much, Toya did not share a great bond with her. He knew the reason his father and mother had gotten married and knew that Rei had been sold by her family. For this reason, Toya had little regard for her mother and did not rely on her for anything, believing that she was good for nothing. When Rei tried to get Toya to reconsider what he really wanted to do in life and look beyond his father, Toya coldly reprimanded her, reminding her why she married Enji and why he was born, and also blaming Rei for his problems.
At the time of the Paranormal Liberation War , Rei is completely horrified when Dabi reveals his true identity to her, that of her son whom she thought she had lost many years ago. 🗓
Who is Dabi to Shoto?
Shoto is the youngest of Dabi's siblings. Shoto always watched him play with Fuyumi and Natsuo, and often wanted to join them in having fun, but his father prevented any interaction between them because he needed to train and become stronger. However, when Shoto was born, Toya began to feel strong animosity towards him, as he saw Shoto as the replacement for their father's dream. Driven by anger, envy, and frustration, when Enji begged Toya to find another calling in life, Toya demanded that his father look at him, and furiously charged towards Shoto to attack him. Toya would later deeply regret his attempt to attack Shoto, realizing that he had done nothing wrong and was just a baby at the time. As can be seen in his pleading with his father, Toya was shown to initially view Shoto as a sort of rival to surpass All Might and gain their father's affection .
Currently, Dabi and Shoto share an ambiguous relationship, although Shoto always seems to remember him through his memories. It is also unclear if Shoto blames Enji for Toya's accident, with the rest of the siblings conflicted over the matter.
The two brothers clash when the Vanguard Action Team invades the Beast Forest to kidnap Katsuki Bakugo . 💥 Watching closely at Shoto's helpless expression during their brief confrontation, Dabi taunts him for failing to save Katsuki while calling him by his real name. This suggests a feeling of mockery and pity towards his brother. Shoto was also very shocked when he recognized Dabi when he revealed himself in public during his attempted attack on Endeavor and Hawks. However, he still only knew Dabi through his villain persona, and not as his brother.
At the time of the Paranormal Liberation War, Dabi happily reveals his true identity as Toya to Endeavor and Shoto when he reaches their location on Gigantomachia, without any hesitation. He also admits that he originally wanted to kill Shoto once he became successful in his career as a hero, viewing him as Endeavor's little puppet. This revelation causes Shoto to be shocked and horrified to see that his older brother is a villain. Dabi doesn't even seem to consider him human as he calls him a puppet or a masterpiece. This shows that he now only sees Shoto as an extension of Endeavor and a target of his grudge. When they both fight, Dabi does not hesitate to attack Shoto, coldly declaring that he no longer feels anything for anyone and telling himself that he could kill Shoto in front of Endeavor's eyes. 👀 However, it also appears that Dabi only thinks about it to make his father desperate, because when Endeavor is unconscious, he stops fighting him because Endeavor isn't looking at him.
Although he only seems to care about Endeavor's despair, it is suggested that Dabi hates Shoto even more since his birth, as Shoto inherited his mother's ice powers that regulate his flames, while he did not. inherited only from his mother's low tolerance for fire. It's possible that Dabi shows strong jealousy towards his youngest brother, which explains why he wanted to kill him in the first place. 💀
Fuyumi Todoroki
When Toya was born, she was happy with the new addition to the family. When they were children, Toya confided in him his desire to be recognized in their father's eyes. In return, Fuyumi showed great concern upon seeing her older brother's burns and asked him not to surpass himself, but Toya ignored her pleas and simply said that a girl wouldn't understand, determined to surpass All Might.
Despite being a "failed creation" like him and Natsuo, Toya did not share a particularly positive relationship with Fuyumi. Although he interacts quite well with her and plays with her and Natsuo, Toya prefers to confide her personal thoughts and doubts to Natsuo. When Natsuo told Toya to talk to Fuyumi about his doubts instead of him from time to time, Toya rejected the idea, believing that his mother and Fuyumi were of no use due to their constant attempts to talk him out of it. train his Quirk and realize his dream of becoming a hero who surpasses All Might. 🥇
Today, Fuyumi mourns his "death" and prays at his altar . Unlike Natsuo, she doesn't seem to blame their father for his death.
However, when Dabi revealed himself in public in an attempt to attack Endeavor and Hawks, Fuyumi seemed very shocked by this, despite not knowing his true identity at the time. Like the rest of her family, Fuyumi would be deeply shocked and saddened by Dabi's broadcast and the revelation that he had become a mass murderer and villain.
Natsuo Todoroki
As the family's past shows, Toya did not have a good impression of his younger brother when he was born, as he understood what their father was trying to do by having more children. Despite this, Toya and Natsuo became extremely close to each other, to the point of being inseparable, as they always played together as children. Toya would also tell Natsuo everything he was thinking and what was tormenting him, and lean on him for emotional comfort. It is implied that he felt a sense of camaraderie with Natsuo as he considered them both to be their father's "failed creations". To Toya, Natsuo was the only one who could understand him and the only one he could talk to, and when Natsuo suggested that he talk to Fuyumi about his problems instead of him from time to time, Toya was deeply hurt by the implication that Natsuo was rejecting him, to the point of almost crying.😭 His supposed death, occurring shortly after his mother left, greatly affected Natsuo, causing him to resent his father, whom he considers as the main person responsible for what happened to Toya.
Today, Natsuo still remembers Toya and still can't forgive his father. When Dabi revealed himself in order to attack Endeavor and Hawks, Natsuo seemed very shocked by this revelation while "he did not know his true identity at the time. Around the time of the Paranormal Liberation War, Dabi mentions Natsuo when giving his speech to Endeavor, implying that he still remembers him fondly although they haven't seen each other in a long time. When Dabi revealed his identity as Toya, Natsuo was shown horrified upon seeing what his older brother had become on his phone. Alas, when Shoto criticizes him for sending a villain who almost killed the same brother he loved and depended on, Dabi responds that it's a shame he didn't die because Endeavor would have suffered more, not caring only to inflict as much pain on Endeavor as possible, even if it means sacrificing his family. 👪
League of Villains
Tomura Shigaraki
Dabi and Tomura were very disconnected when they first met. Dabi immediately insulted Tomura and refused to tell him his real name. Dabi also doubted the League of Villains' allegiance to Stain's ideology, eventually causing Tomura to try to attack Dabi, who was ready to defend himself but Kurogiri stopped him. 👮🏻♂️
Despite this, they become comrades after Tomura finds his conviction following their first meeting. Dabi follows Tomura's orders and trusts Tomura to lead the League of Villains. After All For One's defeat, Dabi becomes a valuable ally and partner for Tomura.
He also seems to respect him, as he was amazed by the latter's power in the war against the Meta Liberation Army and was happy that he gained an army thanks to their victory. However, Dabi reveals to Hawks that he never cared about Tomura or the League of Villains and only wants to use them to further his own goals.
Vanguard Action Squad
Himiko Toga
Dabi seems to consider Himiko a valuable ally. 🤝🏻 Despite this, he does not seem to have a high opinion of her personality and often calls her crazy. When they first met, Dabi doubted the League of Villains' motives because of Himiko's desire to join them, but they became comrades . As they are both admirers of Stain, they share a common goal in wanting to bring down hero society.
Dabi doesn't tolerate Himiko making fun of him when things don't go his way, like when she accuses him of having no social skills and burning those he doesn't consider fit for purpose. being part of the league, or being upset because her fire had no effect on Gigantomachia. Typically, Dabi responds to these provocations with blunt sarcasm. But recently, Toga has been a little worried about Dabi, asking him if his arm is crackling and if he's okay. 🦾
Hero Pro
Hawks
Dabi was suspicious of Hawks. 🐦 It is unknown whether he would have killed Hawks in his weakened state, although the two organized the attack on High-End together. Dabi even questions Hawks' integrity within the League of Villains, with Hawks explaining that he had to keep up appearances for the Hero Society.
Soon enough, Dabi let him join the Paranormal Liberation Front because he saw that Hawks was capable of committing murder. Their relationship is mocking, dishonest, and resembles a constant power struggle. Dabi is the only villain to see the hero's lies and suspect Hawks of being a double agent.
As the attack on the Gunga Mountain Villa begins, Dabi goes to Hawks' location, knowing that it was Hawks who started the war.
Dabi joins the fight against Hawks, countering the hero's extreme speed with powerful shots. Hawks manages to escape, but before he can kill Twice, Dabi yells Hawks' real name , which had been kept a secret since Hawks was a child.
After Twice is killed by Hawks, Dabi becomes furious with the hero and mercilessly attacks him with his flames. 🔥 Dabi forces him to stay on the ground while completely burning Hawks' wings. During this confrontation, Hawks asks the villain who he really is and Dabi answers. After hearing his true identity as Endeavor's son, Hawks stops struggling with a shocked facial expression. Dabi tells him that Hawks should have known that his former adversary was a bigger threat to him than any other villain. Dabi also claims that he doesn't care whether Hawks lives or dies.
Others
Stain
Dabi is deeply inspired by Stain's ideology . He joined the League to make Stain's ideals a reality. It's likely that Dabi's decision to use an alias instead of his real name was inspired by Stain. His complete devotion to Stain is demonstrated during his fight against Hawks, when Dabi explains to Hawks that he should have gone after Stain rather than Tomura or the League of Villains, and he declares himself the ultimate manifestation of Stain's Will However, while Stain considers a few individuals like All Might and Izuku to be true heroes , Dabi believes that there are no true heroes in the world, demonstrating a slight difference between their views.
Fumikage Tokayami
Dabi acts condescending and manipulative towards Tsukuyomi when they first meet, telling her that her mentor Hawks betrayed and killed Twice, then claiming that heroes' hands are dirtier than villains'. He tells the young hero that he has stopped thinking for himself and asks him who really deserves to be saved. 🦸♀️ However, Tsukuyomi refuses to be swayed by Dabi's words, choosing to stay by Hawks' side no matter what he has done.
